Cameron Green sold to KKR for ₹30.50 crore during the IPL 2026 mock auction

The IPL 2026 auction countdown has started, and cricket lovers are keeping a very close eye on every single move. The auction is going to be held in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, December 16, but the Star Sports broadcaster already conducted a mock auction where the participation of all ten franchises was by ex-Indian cricketers.
The mock auction had a total of 30 players whose fate was to be decided by bidding. One such ex-batter India’s Robin Uthappa who represented KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders) did make a newsworthy and also shocking selection that became the focal point of the auction very soon.
Cameron Green Clarifies Role
Australian all-rounder Cameron Green entered the mock auction amid huge expectations. However, confusion arose after he was listed as a specialist batter, raising questions about whether he would bowl. Addressing the issue recently, Green clarified that he is fully fit to bowl and that the “pure batter” tag was mistakenly selected by his management.
This clarification intensified the bidding war, with Suresh Raina (representing Chennai Super Kings) and Robin Uthappa (KKR) locking horns for the Australian star.
Record-Breaking Price
Green’s price soon crossed ₹27 crore, but neither side was willing to back down. Eventually, Uthappa secured Green for a staggering ₹30.50 crore, the highest-ever bid in a mock auction and higher than any price seen in IPL auction history. For comparison, Lucknow Super Giants had bought Rishabh Pant for ₹27 crore in the previous mega auction.
Uthappa allocated nearly half of KKR’s mock auction purse to Green alone. He also picked up Jonny Bairstow for ₹2.5 crore and spent ₹13 crore on Sri Lankan pace sensation and former CSK bowler Matheesha Pathirana.
KKR’s Massive Purse
Ahead of the IPL 2026 mini-auction, KKR released high-value players like Venkatesh Iyer (₹23.75 crore) and Andre Russell (₹12 crore), giving the franchise the largest purse of ₹64.3 crore.
Spending ₹30 crore on Green in the mock auction highlights KKR’s intent to find a long-term all-rounder, especially with Russell nearing retirement. KKR currently has 13 vacant slots to fill, making their auction strategy one of the most anticipated in IPL 2026.
